Taking Global Satellite Service to New People and Places

7 May 1992

NASA and Intelsat collaborate on a historic and successful space mission to retrieve and re-boost into space the INTELSAT 603 spacecraft, stranded in a low earth orbit after a failed launch in 1990.

26-29 April 1994

Using seven satellites in three ocean regions, Intelsat transmits the historic South African election of Nelson Mandela.

11 September 1998

Intelsat provides a live broadcast via the Internet of American ski mountaineer Craig Calinica's attempt to ski down the north face of Mt. Everest.

30 November 1998

A fundamental step to its commercialization, Intelsat transfers working capital, five in-orbit satellites, one in-construction satellite and their associated orbital roles to the newly created company, New Skies Satellites N.V.
