GXS Media

Unrivaled ease, flexibility and reliability

GXS Media is an advanced, integrated network engineered to meet the dynamic requirements of broadcast customers around the world. The network combines all-digital fiber and media-dedicated PoPs in 50+ cities around the world with 8 Intelsat teleports and customer teleports. The media network has the full flexibility of throughput options for HD and SD transmissions with ASI-based throughput up to 80 Mbps and uncompressed SDI up to 270 Mbps.

The result is the most powerful, media-dedicated ground infrastructure, specifically optimized to enable media and entertainment companies assured delivery of sporting, entertainment and news events globally – with unprecedented ease, reliability and economic efficiencies.

Technical Features

Reliability

  • The fiber network employs state-of-the-art technology versus legacy technology still in use by other providers.
  • With the capability to operate at varying rates of transmission, carrying both HD and SD content in the same transmission pipe
  • Ability to transport end-to-end in first generation
  • True multicast capability allowing one discreet feed to be transmitted to multiple PoPs locations simultaneously.
  • All-optical technology ensures no packet loss or jitter to degrade the quality of the transmission.
  • Full support of HD transmissions within the network and from the event venue using a pool of Intelsat-owned and coordinated encoders.
  • Equipment redundancies in place across encoders, muxes, and switches … and, everything is 5th generation, state-of- the-art MPEG-2 across the network PoPs.

Flexibility

  • The fiber network assures you both scalability and sufficient bandwidth to accommodate any traffic requirement you have at any time.
  • The network can flexibly accept hand-off of content in either analog or digital formats (TV1, DS3, SDI, OC3, IC12, GigE, Dark Fiber, ATM and IP) using MPEG-2 compression encoding with data rates as low as 4Mbps up to 80Mbps; it can also accept uncompressed SDI up to 270 Mbps via a single interface in an end-to-end digital environment.
  • Your content arrives at its destination in the same quality as it originated, without being reconstituted at any point.

Reach

  • The fiber network is seamlessly interconnected with the Intelsat's global video contribution and distribution network, which allows broadcasters to dispatch or receive traffic to and from any location in the world.
  • Additionally, the fiber network enables you to access customer premises, event venues, HD programmers, and strategic traffic exchange points, either directly through dedicated local loop connectivity, or through key video switches such as Los Angeles (PacBell Hollywood Hub), New York (Ascent/Waterfront), London (BT Tower; Telehouse).

Service

  • Dedicated, 24/7 single point of contact customer support and service at the international Video Operations Center (VOC) where all booking, billing, provisioning, monitoring, troubleshooting, and inquiries are managed.
  • Sophisticated monitoring and control of each transmission, using the latest technology that allows the VOC to centrally manage and allocate resources and bandwidth.
  • Fast switching and set up, remotely from Intelsat's VOC.
  • 40 years of successfully meeting broadcaster requirements with a trained team of engineers and operations staff.
